Babloo picks his squad for Asiad

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) yesterday announced a 23-member squad including 19 players for the Asian Games to be held in Doha next month.

The Games begin on December 1 but the footballers will leave Dhaka on November 25 for the Qatar capital for their opening group match against South Korea on November 28.

Drawn in a strong group, Bangladesh will play Bahrain on December 2 and Vietnam on December 5.

The teams are allowed to carry 20 footballers but Mehdi Hassan Ujjal's trip remains uncertain after he missed the training camp for one week.

The BFF show-caused the Abahani attacking midfielder for his absence and came to know that he had to attend his father due to his illness.

"We will discuss the issue tomorrow and decide whether to include him or not. If we are not satisfied we will not take him and make the tour with one player less because we cannot include a new name in the list," told BFF general secretary Anwarul Hoque Helal yesterday.

The tournament rules permit three senior footballers join the under-23 teams and Hasanuzzaman Babloo has chosen two centre-backs -- Rajani and Nazrul -- and midfielder Matiur Munna.

Mohammedan's defensive midfielder Arman Aziz, set to join Muktijoddha Sangsad this season, has been named captain.
