President asks all to protect sanctity of highest court

President and Chief Adviser Iajuddin Ahmed has called upon all to protect the sanctity of the highest court, as function of the Supreme Court remained halted for the second day yesterday.

"Keep the highest court of the country above controversy," the president said when a delegation of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, led by Justice TH Khan, met him at Bangabhaban yesterday.

Other members of the delegation are Advocate Khondokar Mahbubuddin Ahmed, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Nazmul Huda, Justice Habibul Islam Bhuiyan, Barrister Aminul Haque, Barrister Shahjahan Omor, Barrister Abdur Razzak and Advocate Shah Khosruzzaman.

According to a Bangabhaban statement, the members of the delegation expressed their deep concern over the recent vandalism at the Supreme Court and termed it part of a "plot to destroy the highest judiciary".

They also demanded punishment to those responsible for the "Vandalism".

Referring to the option for the formation a larger bench, they said the chief justice can order the hearing of "any case at a larger bench anytime" within his lawful authority.

They said the chief justice took initiative to form a larger bench according to the petition of the attorney general, the top law officer of the country.

"The law will take its own course," the president told the delegation of the pro-BNP lawyers. He sought cooperation of all in holding a free and transparent election in the country.
