Hasina slates filing of cases against lawyers

Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina yesterday protested the filing of cases on sedition charges against renowned lawyers, including Dr Kamal Hossain, M Amir-Ul Islam and Rokanuddin Mahmud, following the November 30 incident on the Supreme Court premises. In a statement, Hasina alleged that the cases were filed with a view to tarnishing the image of the noted lawyers. Expressing concern, Hasina, also the former prime minister, observed that the current events at the apex court are pushing the country into a "deep crisis", which is not desired by any citizen. Seeking immediate withdrawal of the case, she called upon all concerned to uphold the image of the highest Judiciary.
