Australia captain Ricky Ponting moved to joint-third on the all-time rankings for Test batsmen following his match-winning performances in the Adelaide Test that saw his side take a 2-0 lead in the Ashes. The 31-year-old Tasmanian scored 142 and 49 in the second Test against England, which the hosts won by six wickets on Tuesday, to move up from sixth in the list and join Jack Hobbs, according to the latest International Cricket Council ratings. Australia great Donald Bradman heads the list followed by Englishman Len Hutton. Ponting's first innings hundred was the 33rd century of his Test career and his seventh of the calendar year. The run machine is just two short of equalling Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf's record of nine centuries in a calendar year set last week, as well as levelling Indian great Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most number of Test centuries. Australia play two more of the five-Test Ashes series before the year ends, with the third Test commencing in Perth on December 14.
