Criticising AL for 'wrong doings', she said, "Awami League believes the Hindus belong to it and consider them as its vote bank."

The BNP chairperson also said everyone wants to live in harmony but 'a certain political party' wants to make the country dysfunctional by keeping the people illiterate just for capturing power easily.

"Awami Leauge thinks that the Hindus will vote for its candidates without taking into consideration whether they did any good for the Hindu community," she said accusing AL members of encroaching on lands and other properties of the Hindus.

She was addressing a ceremony on Banani Model School premises on the occasion of a rather large number of people of Munshiganj-1 constituency led by Ranajit Chakrabarty joining her party. BNP leaders claimed that about 6000 people joined their party.

Referring to LDP President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, she said, "He did not do anything for the development of his own constituency of Munshiganj-1 and carried out his political activities like a zamindar depriving the people of much needed development in the area".

"I would like to assure you that we will bring enormous development to your area if you vote for four-party," she told the new comers.

The former prime minister said BNP wants the people of all faiths to live side by side peacefully in Bangladesh enjoying equal rights and dignity by making the country a prosperous one through educating the people.

Alleging AL of repressing the Hindus when it was in power, she said BNP carried out various development activities for the people of all faiths including the Hindu community when it was in power.

Describing the development works for the Hindu community in the last five years, Khaleda Zia said some 22,000 puja mandaps were set up across the country during the regime of the immediate past four-party government and arrangements were also made for rebuilding the Kalimandir at Ramna.

"Ramadan and puja were simultaneously held and celebrated peacefully during our rule, which is a unique example of communal harmony in Bangladesh," she said adding that BNP does not believe in majority or minority as it believes that all citizens are Bangladeshis.

Presided over by Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, a BNP ticket aspirant from Munshiganj-1, Joint Secretary General of the party Aman Ullah Aman, Goutam Chakrawarty and Nitai Roy also addressed the ceremony.
