Sehwag, Jaffer under fire

India selectors have revealed they may make changes to the opening batting slots for the second Test against South Africa in Durban on December 26.The tourists won by 123 runs to seal a first Test win on South African soil but Wasim Jaffer and Virender Sehwag made only 50 runs between them. Chairman of Selectors Dilip Vengsarkar confirmed: "I think the opening slots are there for grabs. "There are some players who are vying for the slot." India have used seven different opening combinations since January 2005. One of their options is Gautam Gambhir, the 25-year-old left-hander who averages a modest 36 from his 13 Tests but has provided a useful foil for Sehwag. The pair have scored 703 runs between them and average 63 together from seven Tests, compared with Sehwag and Jaffer's 37 from eight Tests.
