Welcoming the announcement by Awami League (AL)-led 14-party coalition that it will participate in the upcoming election, BNP Secretary General Abdul Manna Bhuiyan yesterday said they are very glad as they want all political parties to participate in the election. On the much controversial memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between AL and Khelafat Majlish he said, "They want to go to power at any cost." "In fact they only tried to confuse the people as they will not implement the MoU at all," he said, adding that AL termed Ershad a 'thief' earlier but they are united now. Bhuiyan was briefing newsmen in Hawa Bhaban last night where he hoped that 14-party will stick to its decision. "Awami League's announcement is not clear as one of its leaders said they will participate in the election while another said they will participate only as a part of their movement," he said, adding that an election can be a part of a movement only during agitation against a military government or for changing a society. The BNP secretary general also said the people knew that AL would take part in the election. "Regrettably they finally agreed after a loss of 56 innocent lives, damage to public property and to the country's economy to the tune of Tk 35,000 crore for which they will have to compensate one day," he added.
