6 warehouses of jute gutted in Khulna

A devastating fire yesterday burnt down Tk 8 crore worth raw jute stockpiled in six adjacent warehouses at Daulatpur.

However, the locals said the damage would not be worth over Tk 3 crore.

Assistant Director of Fire Services Golam Rahman told The Daily Star that the incident was mysterious and he is yet to find out how the fire originated.

The fire broke out at around 11:00am and was brought under control after four hours by eleven units of fire service and the Navy.

Fire service sources said the fire might have started in the warehouse belonging to Eastern Jute Traders, while the reason of the fire is still under investigation.

The blaze then leaped up to other neighbouring warehouses owned by Golden Jute Supply, Uttara Jute Corporation and Reza Jute Traders.
