17 candidates elected unopposed

A total of 17 candidates in the forthcoming national election, including BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman, have been declared elected unopposed.Respective returning officers yesterday declared them elected as their rivals pulled out of the fray following the Awami League-led grand alliance's decision not to participate in the election. Khaleda was re-elected from Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituency while Tarique, also the senior joint secretary general of BNP, was elected from Bogra -7 (Gabtoli). Others who were elected members of parliament unopposed are former finance minister M Saifur Rahman (Sylhet-1), Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami (Pabna-1), Shariful Alam of BNP (Kishoreganj-7), Shahjahan Omar of BNP (Jhalakati-1), Syed Emran Saleh Prince of BNP (Mymensingh-1, Haluaghat), Azizur Rahman Chowdhury of Jamaat (Dinajpur-6), Akhter Hamid Siddique of BNP (Naogaon-3), Rashiduzzaman Millat of BNP (Jamalpur-1), Lutfazzaman Babar of BNP (Netrokona-4), Amanullah Aman of BNP (Dhaka-3), MM Shahin of BNP (Moulavhibazar-2), Sheikh Sujat Miah of BNP (Habiganj-1), Abdullah Abu Teher of Jamaat (Comilla-12), Wadud Bhuiyan of BNP (Khagrachhari) and Nazir Hossain of BNP (Sunamganj-1).
