UNB from Savar adds: A day labourer was killed and two others were injured when they fell off a running truck in Dhamrai on Dhaka-Aricha highway Saturday night.

Local sources said the truck driver moved towards his vehicle ignoring the signal at Barobaria police check post at about 11:00pm.

The labourers, travelling on the truck, fell on the road being struck with the bamboo bar at the check post, leaving them critically injured.

One of the labourers died on the way to hospital. His identity could not be known.

The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The truck driver, however, managed to flee the scene.

Our Nilphamari correspondent says three people were killed and two others injured in two separate road accidents in the district on Saturday night.

Both the accidents occurred due to dense fog, sources said.

The first accident took place when a Domar-bound passenger bus from Nilphamari dashed a rickshaw van from behind at Polash Bari Bazar on Nilphamari-Domar Road at about 11:30pm.

Rickshaw van passengers Rahima Begum, 37, and Nuran Nabi, 16, died on the spot.

Both the victims hailed from Arazi Polash Bari village under Sadar upazila.

The rickshaw puller and another passenger were also injured.

Local people detained the killer bus and set fire to it.

The driver and conductor however managed to escape.

Police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Nilphamari District Hospital for autopsy.

In the other accident, a man was killed at WAPDA intersection on Saidpur-Dinajpur Bypass Road at Saidpur upazila.

He was killed when a minibus ran over his bycycle at 11:00pm.

The victim was identified as Nasiruddin, 28, of Munshi Para Mohalla under Saidpur municipality.

Saidpur police sent the body to Nilphamari District Hospital for postmortem.

Two unnatural death (UD) cases have been filed with Nilphamari Sadar and Saidpur Police Stations.

Our correspondent from Patuakhali adds: One woman was killed and nine others were injured in a road accident in the district yesterday.

The dead was identified as Saleha Begum, 65, of Basak Baza village under Patuakhali sadar upazila.

She was rushed to Patuakhali General Hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead at 3:00pm.

The accident occurred at about 10.30am when a Patuakhali- bound motor van from local Shakharia bus stand fell into a roadside ditch at Karamjatala bazar area.

Of the other injured, Julhas, 45, was also rushed to Patuakhali General Hospital where he is fighting for life.

A correspondent from Madaripur adds: One person was killed in a road accident at Panchchari bus stand under Sibchar upazila on Mawa-Barisal highway yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim Hawladar, 70, a retired primary school headmaster of Hoglarmath in Shibchar upazila.

Witnesses said the dead was run over by a Barisal-bound passenger bus at 11:00am while he was crossing the road.
