She was identified as Nilufar Yasmine, 21, a fourth year student at the Nursing Institute of DMCH.

The body of Nilufar was found hanging from the ceiling of a fan at her residence at 318/1 Nakhalpara at around 4:00am, said police.

Jamaluddin, victim's brother, alleged that Nilufar, who secretly married Asif Adnan Shetu eight months back, was frequently tortured by her husband.

Shetu beat her on the night of the incident, he said quoting a neighbour of the victim.

An unnatural death case was lodged in this connection and the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, one Parul Akhter, 17, of Kaliakoir under Gazipur district allegedly killed herself by drinking poison.

Sources said Parul committed suicide over family feuds.
