5 murdered in 24 hrs

A trader was shot dead, two brothers were strangled and two others were found dead in Savar, Keraniganj and Dhaka within a span of 24 hours. A gang of criminals sprayed bullets on Abdur Rouf, 40, a sand trader, and Mohammad Zafar, 30, in front of Rouf's house at Begunbari in Aminbazar, Savar and exploded bombs at around 7:00pm. They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but the doctors declared Rouf dead. Zafar is now undergoing treatment at the hospital. In Keraniganj, two brothers were strangled by their cousin following an altercation with their mother over a sewing machine on Saturday night. Police recovered the bodies of the brothers -- Mohammad Arif, 12, and Badshah, 7, -- in separate places at Chunkuthia village in Dakkhin Keraniganj at 10:00pm. Police said Hridoy, a cousin of the victims, took Arif and Badshah to a nearby bush at around 6:00pm and then strangled Arif. When Badsha threatened to inform his mother about the incident, Hridoy also killed him in the same manner. After killing the two, Hridoy went to Kotwali Police Station in Dhaka and confessed to his crime. Hridoy told police that he killed them following an altercation with his aunt, mother of the victims, as she did not return the motor of a sewing machine to him. Earlier, Hridoy gave the motor to her. A murder case was lodged with Keraniganj Police Station. In a separate incident, Jatrabari police recovered the body of an unidentified man from the roof of a three-storey building at Shekhdi in Jatrabari yesterday evening. Police said the victim was strangled. Meanwhile, Keraniganj police recovered another body of an unidentified youth, aged around 25, in Atibazar area yesterday morning. The body, which bore several marks of injury, was sent to Sir Salimullah Medial College morgue.
