Everton fail in Barton bid

Everton have failed in a transfer bid to bring Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton to Goodison Park. Toffees' manager David Moyes confirmed on the Everton website that the 24-year-old Barton had been a transfer target but that Manchester City were not interested. "I can confirm that we have made an enquiry for Joey Barton," Moyes said. "However, Manchester City made it clear he was not for sale and we respect the wishes of the club and Stuart Pearce."
