Torture on two photojournalists condemned
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) yesterday condemned the torture on two photojournalists by the authorities of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) while performing their professional duties on Monday. BFUJ President Manzurul Ahsan Bulbul and Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan and DUJ President Altaf Mahmud and General Secretary Omar Faruk in a joint statement said there are many doubts in the minds of general people about the mysterious activities of BOU high officials. The journalists have the moral obligation to make people aware in this regard, they observed. The journalist leaders also hoped that the authorities concerned would restrain themselves from such kind of behaviour with the journalists while performing their professional duties and cooperate with them in future. The BOU authorities locked up photojournalists of The Daily Star and The New Age in an office room on its Gazipur campus for around seven hours as they were taking pictures of valuable trees felled on the campus.
