Jamaat against weekly holiday on Sunday

Jamaat Ameer Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami yesterday expressed deep concern over the issue of changing Friday as weekly holiday.

"To make a one-day weekly holiday instead of two days is realistic for Bangladesh and we have no objection about it. But those proposing holiday on Saturday or Sunday has no logic behind their demand," he said in a statement.

Nizami said it is quite logical to make Friday the weekly holiday for the second largest Muslim country like Bangladesh, if the countries where Saturday or Sunday has been kept as weekly holiday on religious or cultural ground.

"It has to be proved if international trade, commerce and transactions have been affected due to weekly holiday on Friday," he said, adding: "It is to be examined how much it has affected or whether it has at all affected our trade and commerce."
