Probe into Paltan bomb blast demanded

Leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) yesterday demanded proper investigations into the bomb blast that took place at its rally at Paltan in the city in January 2001.

In a statement, CPB President Manzurul Ahsan Khan and General Secretary Muzahidul Islam Selim said the previous governments did not take any initiative to bring the culprits to book although five years have elapsed after the incident.

Rather, they widened the scope for militancy and terrorism by not identifying and punishing the criminals, they added.

The leaders urged the Caretaker Government (CG) to take necessary steps to bring the criminals to book.

The bomb blast at the CPB rally on January 20, 2001 killed Comrade Himangshu Mondol, Abdul Majid, Hashem, Biprodas and Mokter and injured over a hundred supporters.
