RU Seat Rent Hike
Students' memo to chief adviser
RU Correspondent
Residential students of Rajshahi University (RU) urged the caretaker government to withdraw the increased seat rent imposed by RU authorities last month. A memorandum signed by 363 residential students of different halls was faxed to the chief adviser and the education advisor. In the memo, the students said a Dhaka University student pays Tk 380 yearly as hall fee whereas an RU student has to pay Tk 1,500 every year, including seat rent as per new decision. In the memo, they alleged that they went to submit the memorandum to Vice Chancellor Prof Altaf Hossain at his office on Monday but he misbehaved with the students. The VC however denied the allegation of misbehaviour and argued to the reporters that they have decided to increase seat rent as hall related expenditure has increased. According to the sources, the new seat rent has been fixed at Tk 120 per month, which was Tk 55 earlier.
