Five killed in Mymensingh road crash

Five people, including father and son, died in a road accident on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Seed Store Bazar under Bhaluka upazila of the district yesterday.

Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when a Dhaka bound BRTC bus from Mymensingh collided head on with a Mymensingh bound car from Dhaka at about 1:00pm, killing five people, including the driver of the car, on the spot.

The dead were identified as Abdur Rahman, 75, his son Siddiqul Islam, 30, son-in-law Abdul Hye, 30, relative Amir Hossain, 31 and car driver Russel, 28. The victims hailed from Birunia village under Bhaluka upazila.

Siddiqul Islam was a Bangladeshi expatriate in Saudi Arabia. He arrived at Zia International Airport yesterday morning. His father and two other relatives--Abdul Hye and Amir Hossain--received him at the airport. They all were returning home in Bhaluka by the car.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
