'Rupantorer Gaan': Songs of transformation


An album of songs that inspired people, from the Language Movement to the Liberation War, in protests and struggles for establishing rights was launched at the National Museum recently. The album, titled Rupantorer Gaan, features songs of transformation.

Shaheen Samad and Enamul Haque, two noted Gono Sangeet singers and members of Mukti Sangrami Shilpi Shonstha during the Liberation War, rendered songs for the album. Deputy Commander of Bangladesh Liberation Forces, Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) A K Khondokar launched the album.

Eminent litterateur Syed Shamsul Haque, cultural activist Kamal Lohani, former adviser to the Caretaker Government Sultana Kamal, singers Shaheen Samad and Enamul Haque and the chairman of Laser Vision AKM Arifur Rahman spoke on the occasion. Sara Zaker conducted the function. The speakers said that the songs would continue to inspire people in struggles to secure rights as they did in the past.

Fifteen songs, including Amar bhaier rokte rangano, Nai nai bhoy hobe hobe joy, Karar oi louho kopat, Bidhroho aj bidhroho charidike, Ore bishom doirar dheo, Phool khelbar din noy adyo, Amar protibader bhasha, Himaloy theke sundorbon and others, feature in the album. Sujeo Shyam has directed the music and Asaduzzaman Noor added the commentary while Qayyum Chowdhury designed the cover of the album.
