Cultural evening by Bangladesh Lokosangeet Parishad

Bangladesh Lokosangeet Parishad (BLP), an organisation of folk singers, celebrated its 9th founding anniversary recently. The programme was held at the Bishwa Shahitya Kendra auditorium. The chief guest of the programme was veteran poet and lyricist Sabir Ahmed Chowdhury and special guest was Hafizur Rahman.

The event comprised of three sessions. The first segment featured the oath taking ceremony of the newly founded committee of BLP. A total of 22 members have been selected for two years. The president of the newly founded committee is leading folk singer Indra Mohon Raj Bongshi.

The second session of the event featured a short discussion session.. The introductory speech was presented by Nasrin Ferdous, general secretary of the newly elected body of BLP. In her speech she presented a brief analysis of BLP-- its recent activities, contribution in promoting folk songs and future plans. After her the chief guest, special guest and others delivered speeches. Such programmes should be held regularly, they pointed out, so that the younger generation gets acquainted with traditional songs. Likewise, state support in this endeavour will be more than welcome.

Akramul Islam, senior general secretary of BLP, presided over the discussion.

After the discussion, the main attraction and the final session of the programme, the folk evening was staged by a medley of 27 artistes.

The first artiste to perform was Sayanto Khan, who rendered O bajan chol jai chol, a song written by poet Jasim Uddin. She was followed by Sanjida Sarkar who sang Babay bole Ma, Mae bole, composed by Momtaz Ali Khan. The other performers were Nasrin Hayat, Shamsur Nahar Shaon, Pervin Akter Bithi among others.
