More arms recovered in Khagrachhari

Security forces seized arms and ammunition from remote Kalapahar area under Mohalchhari upazila of the district yesterday morning.

Acting on a tip-off, some army patrol teams of Khagrachhari region raided the Kalapahar Radhatila area and seized two SBBL guns, one rifle, one LG, three pistols and ammunition from a den of criminals.

The criminals fled the den, sensing the presence of the army personnel. Security sources said the den belongs to the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), an organisation of anti-peace campaigners in the CHT.

When contacted, UPDF central committee member Samari Chakma said UPDF men don't possess arms and ammunition. They have been campaigning only to protect the rights of indigenous people, she added.

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) seized one AK81 rifle, the latest version of AK47, during a drive at Dighinala of the district on Wednesday.
