Indian FM to arrive Feb 19

India's External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will visit Dhaka on February 19 to extend the invitation to Bangladesh leaders to the 14th Saarc summit to be held here on April 3 and 4.

It remains to be seen to whom the invitation is extended--the head of Bangladesh's caretaker government Fakhruddin Ahmed or President Iajuddin Ahmed--for the summit.

It also remains to be seen who represents Bangladesh--foreign Secretary or the foreign affairs adviser--in the Saarc Council of Ministers meeting ahead of the summit.

Mukherjee has already visited other Saarc countries to invite the heads of government or state to the summit.

Sources said Mukherjee may take the opportunity to meet Bangladesh leadership to review bilateral, regional and international situation.

The political situation in Bangladesh and the caretaker government's efforts to conduct parliamentary elections are also likely to figure in Mukherjee's talks in Dhaka.

A lowdown on the situation in Bangladesh was already given to Mukherjee by Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus during their meeting here earlier this month.
