Former Awami League (AL) lawmaker Tanjim Ahmed Sohel Taj, who was earlier offloaded from an aircraft as he was about to travel to India, has sought government permission for going on an India tour.Sohel Taj urged, in a letter to the chief adviser to the caretaker government, that he be allowed to travel to India along with his family and not be "harassed" this time around. He has planned to go to India with his family members on February 22 and requested the authorities not to put any barrier to his tour abroad, he said, adding that, he is neither a "corrupt person nor a terrorist". In his letter, submitted to the chief adviser's office Thursday, Sohel Taj, son of the first prime minister of Bangladesh Tajuddin Ahmed, pleaded that there were no allegations of corruption or terrorism against him and nor were all the people in the country corrupt. "I am neither a loan defaulter nor a terrorist nor a criminal. As a citizen, I have the right to travel to any country," he said. Sohel Taj also wanted to know why he, as a representative of Awami League, had been barred from attending the centenary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's "Satyagraha Andolan" organised by the ruling Indian National Congress in New Delhi on January 28. "I fail to understand why the authorities concerned are up with such behaviour with me," the young Awami League leader told UNB. In his letter, Taj urged the chief adviser to avoid a repeat of the unpleasant incident of sending him back home from the airport.
