Tiger kills one in Sundarbans


One person was killed by a Royal Bengal Tiger in Baikari forest area near the river Chunkuri in the Sundarbans yesterday morning.

The victim, who went there to collect wood, was identified as Abu Bakkar Dhali, 35, son of Eman Ali of village Noabeki in Shyamnagar upazila of the district.

Police quoted the local people as saying that a group of bawalis went to the Sundarbans on Tuesday, taking permission from the forest department.

While they were collecting wood in Baikari forest area, the tiger swooped on Dhali and dragged him into the deep forest. Locals recovered the body from the deep forest at about 2:30pm.
