Fine start for Wasiur

Wasiur Rahman struck a sublime century to propel Dhanmondi to a 50-run victory over Agrani Bank in the Kai-Altech First Division at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Put into bat, Dhanmondi scored 241-8 in 50 overs but then bowled out Agrani Bank for 191 in 47 overs.

Wasiur struck nine sweetly timed boundaries and a couple of sixes in his 95-ball knock but the other batsmen failed to raise the tempo. Ashiqul and Uttam took two wickets each.

Agrani's two-down batsman Ashiqul Islam struck a patient 54 but his fall sparked a collapse as Dhanmondi spinner Altaf Kamal took four wickets for 37.

In the other match on the opening day, promoted side BKSP held on to earn a seven-run victory over Azad Sporting Club. Batting first, BKSP only mustered 175 in 48.3 overs at the Dhaka University ground.

In reply, Azad were haulted by some tight bowling to be locked up at 168-9 in 50 overs with Mahmudul Hasan and left-armer Raihan Anas took two each for BKSP.
