A Hindu devotee was electrocuted yesterday evening as she came into contact with an electric cable while returning from the Chandranath Temple at Sitakunda in Chittagong after performing Shiv Puja on the occasion of Shiv Chaturdashi.

Sabitri Das, 33, who hailed from Bhatiary, came into contact with the wire in Premtala area near Sitakunda College at around 6:30pm while making her way through the crowd of devotees who came to the temple.

She was rushed to nearby local health complex where the doctor declared her dead, sources said.

The three-day religious festival began at the hilltop temple on Thursday.
