Ex-minister Sirajul Hossain Khan dies


Former minister and eminent journalist Sirajul Hossain Khan died of old-age complications at his Gulshan residence yesterday. He was 80.

He left behind two sons, two daughters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death, family sources said.

Sirajul Hossain, a former lawmaker from Habiganj-2 constituency, was a minister during the Ershad rule.

He was the East Pakistan resident editor of the then Pakistan Times and the founder chief editor of the Eastern News Agency (ENA).

Khan was the general secretary of the then East Pakistan Journalists Union and the general secretary of Bangladesh Sramik Federation.

During the Liberation War, he was an active member of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Samannay Parishad.

Khan will be buried at his family graveyard at Baniachong under Habiganj district today, family sources said.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has expressed deep shock at the death of Sirajul Hossain Khan.

In a condolence message yesterday, Khaleda said Sirajul Hossain was an uncompromising leader of the progressive political movement in the country.

She prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
