Staff Correspondent
Speakers at a seminar yesterday called on all to raise their voice against corruption, which is eating into the vitals of the country. They said corruption has become widespread as the common people do not protest against it. If all professional groups came forward to mount protests against corruption, it would have disappeared from society, said Prof Muzaffer Ahmad, chairman of the Trustee Board of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), as the chief guest. On an average, 7.94 percent of household income is spent on bribes, said TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman in his keynote paper. The Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) organised the seminar in the city. Prof Tozammel Hossain, founder-president of IDEB, said that if the people follow the religious rules, they would never engage in corruption.
