4 killed in road accidents


Four people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents across the country.

A correspondent of The Daily Star from Comilla reports: A schoolboy was killed in a road accident at Bodorkhal on Dhaka-Chittagong highway under Daudkandi upazila yesterday morning.

The victim was identified as Md Hossain, 12, of Noakhali district.

Witnesses said the accident occurred when an unidentified passenger bus ran over Hossain killing him at about 7:00am when he was returning home after private coaching.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Comilla Medical Collage Hospital for autopsy.

An unnatural death case was filed in this regard.

Our correspondent from Kishoreganj adds: A man was killed on Kishoreganj-Karimganj road at Sholakia of Kishoreganj town yesterday.

The dead was identified as Jamal Uddin, 25, son of Abul Hossen of Gangail village of Kishoreganj sadar upazila.

Kishoreganj police and local sources said Jamal was killed under wheels of a speeding truck heading towards Kishoreganj from Karimganj.

Kishoreganj police detained the killer truck while the driver of the truck managed to escape.

Our correspondent from Patuakhali adds: One woman was killed and seven others injured in a road accident on Patuakhali-Baufal road in Patuakhali yesterday.

The dead was identified as Rabiya, 38, wife of Shahjahan Mridha of Bilbilas Bazar area under Baufal upazila. He was rushed to Baufal Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctor declared her dead at 2:00pm.

BSS from Jessore adds: One person was killed and six others were injured in a road accident to Khejura bus stand in the town on Saturday night.

Police and hospital sources said the accident took place when a Khulna-bound bus carrying students from Rajshahi University for study tour collided head-on with a passenger bus of Shohag Paribahan from Dhaka.

Supervisor of Shohag Paribahan, 30, died on the spot.

The injured are students of Rajshahi University. They were admitted to Jessore General Hospital.
