Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced cash incentives for the members of the Bangladesh cricket team now in the West Indies to take part in the ninth World Cup. The board took the decision during its four-hour long meeting at the Sinha Lounge of Dhaka Club yesterday."Each player will receive an additional US$ 2000 (on top of the usual win bonus) per match for winning a Group Stage game. If the team qualify for the Super Eight stage, each player will receive an additional US$ 3000 (on top of the usual win bonus)," said a BCB press release. Bangladesh have been pencilled in Group B with India, Sri Lanka and Bermuda. Top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight. In its official statement, the board informed that a few more decisions have been taken but did not disclose further details. Furthermore, the board kept the inquisitive reporters in the dark by not allowing an official spokesman, which has been the case over the years. It was however learnt that board president M Abdul Aziz raised his voice against sending the board members to foreign tours. "He questioned the justification of sending board members to foreign trips as observers for no good reason at the expense of public exchequers," said an official on condition of anonymity. The board sent four of its members for the short trip to Zimbabwe last month that raised many eyebrows. Meanwhile, the board is likely to name its vice-president Gazi Golam Dastagir as CCDM (Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis) chairman in place of Khondokar Jamiluddin, who resigned from the board's executive committee last month. The board has decided to extend the contract of national team's physio Paul Close by three months so that the Australian could be with the Tigers during the World Cup, beginning on March 11. Close's contract expires on March 22. Besides, the structure of the regional committees was discussed in the meeting, and general secretary (Mahbubul Anam) was asked to frame the guidelines and present it in the next meeting. The meeting also decided to increase the grant to Tk. 4,20,000 from Tk. 3,00,000 to the Bangladesh Deaf and Dumb Cricket Team that will participate in the forthcoming First Asia Cup in Bombay, India.
