The National Bank Limited (NBL) yesterday filed a forgery case against the managing director (MD) of Asian City Land Developer Ltd for attempting to obtain Tk 10 crore loan against a fake collateral.NBL Vice-president Syed Raisuddin, who filed the case, alleged that Asian City Ltd MD Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan sought a Tk 10 crore loan from the Gulshan branch of the bank in January. Bhuiyan provided a photocopy of Tk 10 crore Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) as his collateral. Raisuddin, who is the Gulshan branch manager of NBL, asked Bhuiyan to provide the original copy of the FDR. Bhuiyan produced the original FDR copy along with a fresh loan application on February 14. The FDR showed Sonali Bank foreign exchange branch as the issuer and named Kamrul Hasan and Jobayeda Gulshanara as the owners. "The NBL then took this FDR to Sonali Bank to cross check its authenticity," said Raisuddin while talking to The Daily Star. "The Sonali Bank told us that this was not issued by them and it's a case of forgery," he added. After this, the NBL filed a case against Bhuiyan with Gulshan Police Station but none was arrested. The Daily Star phoned Bhuiyan at his Asian City Land Developer office in the evening. A security guard received the phone and said Bhuiyan was not in the office.
