Indian among 6 killed in road crashes

At least five people, including an Indian citizen, were killed in separate road accidents in Pabna, Chittagong, Rangpur, Sirajganj and Brahmanbaria on Saturday night and yesterday.Our Correspondent from Pabna adds: An Indian citizen was killed and four others were injured in a road accident at Rajapur on Pabna-Rajshahi Highway yesterday. The dead was identified as Milin Baidday, 46, of Mumbai in India. He was leading an Indian consultant team, sources said. The accident took place at about 12:00 noon when Milin Baidday along with his team was going to Pabna in a jeep to visit 'Square Pharmaceuticals. The jeep plunged into a roadside ditch as its front wheel was punctured at Rajapur, leaving Milin Baidday dead on the spot and four others injured. Of the injured, Prokash Shindey, Bijoy and Rajen Karen of India and jeep driver Sumon were rushed to Pabna General Hospital. CU Correspondent adds: A tempo driver was killed in a road accident at City Gate area under Pahartali Police Station yesterday morning. The dead was identified as Mohammed Sirazul Islam, 55, son of late Golam Sharif, of the City Gate area. The accident occurred at around 7.00am when a speeding truck knocked a tempo. Sirazul was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries at around 8.00am, sources said. The truck driver, however, managed to escape. BSS from Rangpur adds: One person was killed and two others were critically injured in a road accident at Shothibari point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway under Mithapukur upazila in the district yesterday. Police sources said the accident occurred when a Rangpur-bound picnic bus from Bogra hit a rickshaw van, injuring its driver and two passengers. The bus however, managed to escape. The Mithapukur police rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where rickshaw van passenger Raju, son of Khayer Mandal of village Baro Hazratpur under Mithapukur upazila, succumbed to his injuries. Van driver Sohel, son of Momdel Mia, and another passenger Zahid Parvez, son of Rana Master of village Baro Mirjapur in the same upazila, are undergoing treatment at RMCH and their conditions were stated to be critical, police and hospital sources said. Our Correspondent from Sirajganj adds: A young man was killed in a road accident at Mannan Nagor area on the Dhaka- Bonpara highway in Tarash upazila on Saturday night. The victim was identified as Mukul, 18, of Hamkuria village of the same upazila. Police said the accident occurred at 8.30pm when a Rajshahi-bound speeding bus from Dhaka run over Mukul. Police sent the body to hospital morgue for autopsy. Our Correspondent from Brahmanbaria: One person was killed in a road accident at Noyadil village under Akhaura upazila in the district on Saturday night. The dead was identified as Kala Mia, 10, son of Shah Alam of Noyadil village. Police said Kala Mia's family sources, The accident occurred when an Akhaura-bound tractor loaded with soil took a turning with high speed at Noyadil village and its driver lost the control over the steering. The tractor knocked down Kala Mia on Akhaura linked road near his house, leaving him dead on the spot. Police rushed to the spot and arrested driver Billal Mia and seized the tractor.
