Former minister Hafizuddin sued for killing

Former water resources and commerce minister Major (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed has been sued again in a killing case.

A man, Khorshed Alam, was shot dead allegedly by Hafizuddin Ahmed in Lalmohon upazila of the district during the 2001 national election.

Though a case was filed at that time in connection with the killing, its proceedings could not be held during the BNP-led four-party alliance rule.

The victim's father-in-law, Manik Mia, on Thursday filed the case with the cognisance court demanding re-investigation into the killing.

According to the case, Khorshed was killed when Hafizuddin snatched a gun from police and opened fire as the deceased resisted vote rigging at Dr Azhar Uddin Secondary School polling centre in Lalmohon upazila on the day of voting in 2001.
