GD alleging fraud by recruiting agency
Staff Correspondent
A businessman from Faridpur has filed a general diary (GD) against Moosa Bin Shamsher, owner of manpower recruiting agency Datco, on charge of misappropriating Tk 1.88 crore in the name of recruiting people for jobs in Italy, Malaysia, Libya and Saudi Arabia. The complainant also requested the immigration police at Zia International Airport not to allow Moosa to leave the country. Confirming it, immigration police said last night they were taking necessary steps in this regard. In the GD filed with Airport Police Station on Thursday, complainant Hafiz Ullah said Moosa received Tk 1.88 crore from 20 agents including him through his recruiting agency Datco, located at house no 57, Road-1, Block-I at Banani, for recruiting about 300 people for Italy, Malaysia, Libya and Saudi Arabia. No-one of the 300 job seekers could leave the country as Datco gave them forged passports and documents, he said. Eighty-five of these people, who tried to go to Libya on September 26, 2004 with forged documents, were arrested at the ZIA. Two cases were filed with airport police and a GD with Gulshan police in this connection, police sources said. Hafiz said Moosa did not return the money to any of the job seekers rather threatened them for demanding it. He alleged Moosa was absconding from his office and residence. In October 2004, the parliamentary standing committee on the expatriates welfare and overseas employment ministry asked the government to carry out a thorough investigation into Datco's alleged manpower recruitment fraud after it was learnt that the agency had swindled people by taking money in the name of providing jobs in Italy. Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (Baira) cancelled the membership of Datco the same year for violating recruiting rules of Baira. When this correspondent made a phone call to Moosa's house last night, a woman who identified herself as telephone operator said he was not at home. Declining to give any information, she snapped the connection.
