Bodies of two domestic helps recovered

Police recovered bodies of two teen-age domestic helps at Uttara and Dhanmondi in the city yesterday.Police recovered the body of Nazma Akhtar, 17, daughter of Kuddus Miah of Kishoreganj, at Abul Hasnat's government quarters in Sector-8 in Uttara. They found the body hanging by the neck from a ceiling fan in the maid's room of the third-floor officers' quarters. Rosy, another maid of the house, said both she and Nazma went to sleep around 10:00pm after supper on Thursday night. She said she saw Nazma hanging from the ceiling fan when she woke up next morning. Hasnat said Nazma had been working in his home as domestic help for seven years. Dhanmondi police recovered the body of a domestic help at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital yesterday afternoon. Alpona, 14, who had been working as domestic help to Dr Mostak Raja Chowdhury's house on Road-10/A in Dhanmondi, had committed suicide by hanging herself from a plumbing pipe inside a toilet with her scarf, Mostak's family sources claimed. They said she locked herself inside a toilet of the house and did not come out for a long time. The family members claimed they broke into the toilet around 1:45pm and found her hanging. They rushed her to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead. The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. Two unnatural death (UD) cases were filed with Uttara and Dhanmondi police stations.
