9 organisations fined Tk 19.4 lakh for pilfering Ctg WASA water

Nine industrial and commercial establishments have been fined Tk 19.40 lakh for pilfering water of Chittagong WASA, evading revenues and installing deep tubewells without permission.Special City Magistrate Mohammad Munir Chowdhury fined the organisations during raids in the last seven days in the city, a press release said yesterday. It was found during the drives that unscrupulous consumers had been consuming WASA-supplied water by setting up illegal connections or deep tubewells at their business establishments without permission. Water-lifting machines and instruments were also seized and illegal water supply connections disconnected during the drives titled "Operation Save WASA."
