International Master Enamul Hossain Rajib and FIDE Master Abu Sufian Shakil maintained their winning runs to share the lead after second round of the Mercantile Bank 33rd National Chess Championship yesterday.Defending champion Rajib beat Mohammad Ali while Shakil won his board against Mohammad Javed at the NSC chess room to secure maximum two points. Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman recorded his first win when he beat GM Reefat Bin Sattar while GM Niaz Murshed, who split points with Zia in the first round, failed to collect full points as he drew with Minhazuddin Sagar. DIV I CRICKET Orient Sporting Club maintained their winning spree with a 40-run victory over Agrani Bank in their second super league match of the Kai-Altech First Division Cricket League at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium. Raihan Arafat bowled the league leaders to the comfortable win as he captured five wickets for 32 to wrap up the Agrani innings for 175 in 44.4 overs in defence of 215-8 in 50 overs. Masum scored 52 and Nadim added 49 to give Orient the fighting total. In the relegation league, CCS (165-6) registered their second win which got them closer to avoid demotion with a four-wicket victory against Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club (161-10) at the Fatullah Cricket Stadium. INDEPENDENCE CUP TENNIS Mofazzel Hossain clinched the under-16 title of the Independence Day tennis tournament at the Ramna Tennis Complex with a comprehensive 6-1, 6-1 win over Hanif Munna. In the men's doubles final, Amal Roy and Ranjan Ram trounced Alamgir and Dipu Lal pair 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the trophy.
