Teenage boy burned alive in Ctg fire

An unidentified teenage boy was burned alive and 11 shops, two shanties and two primary schools were gutted in a fire in the port city on Monday night.

The boy, aged around 13, was sleeping in a shanty when the fire broke out at a cotton shop at Sher Shah Colony under Bayezid Police Station at around 10:30pm, sources said.

One person, Zakir Hossain Sarker, was also injured seriously trying to extinguish the blaze. He was admitted to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.

Sources said an electrical short-circuit sparked off the fire that reduced 11 shops, two shanties and two NGO-run tin-roofed primary schools to ashes.

The loss was estimated at Tk 4 lakh.

Seven fire fighting units from several fire stations rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the blaze at around 12:00 midnight.
