Kishoreganj municipality commissioner Ashraful Islam Shamim, also former president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was arrested from the municipality compound at noon. He was wanted in connection with killing a youth named Kamrul Hasan Khan on December 6, 2000.

Locals said, absconding Shamim won Kishoreganj municipality election with active support of the then district leaders of four-party alliance in May, 2004.

There were several other cases with Kishoreganj police station against Shamim including extortion and land grabbing.
