Duty free car
Engr. Mahbub, Australia
The offer of a duty free car to the elected MPs was made by Ershad to bribe his MPs to support his autocratic rule. Even after the fall of autocracy, both the champions of democratic government continued with the same policy and could not dare to withdraw this lucrative offer since their intentions were no better than the past autocratic government's. For an elected MP who has been elected by the people to serve his/her constituency and the country at large, an offer of such a duty free car (an indirect payment from government funds) is the first step to indulging in corruption.
