Withdrawal of charge sheet against Hasina demanded

Chhatra Sangram Parishad, a combine of 14-party-backed student organisations, yesterday expressed concern over the filing of a charge sheet against Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and 45 other leaders of the 14-party.

Demanding withdrawal of the charge sheet, the Parishad leaders said submitting the charge sheet in a false case filed by Jamaat-Shibir is part of a political conspiracy.

On Wednesday, the police charged Sheikh Hasina and other leaders with murder and other serious offences committed during street demonstrations on October 28 last year.

In a statement, the Parishad leaders said that when the people and students are providing their support to the ongoing crackdown on corruptionists, a section of officials loyal to BNP and Jamaat is trying to mislead the people by filing the charge sheet.

Filing of the charge sheet in a politically motivated case hurriedly will hamper the democratic political process, they added.

Coordinator of the Parishad and President of Bangladesh Chhatra League Mahmud Hasan Ripon, JSD BCL President Shariful Kabir Swapan, General Secretary Ali Hasan Tarun, Bangladesh Chhatra Maitree President Rafiqul Islam Sujan, General Secretary Mukter Hossain Nahid and other leaders of the Parishad issued the statement.
