Butenis visits Sundarbans


US Ambassador in Bangladesh Patricia A Butenis yesterday visited the Sundarbans.

She was accompanied by Deputy Mission Director of USAID Tod Sorenson, Democracy Adviser of USAID H M Nazrul Islam, Chief Executive of Rupantar, an NGO, Swapan Guha and Director of Rupantar Rafiqul Islam Khokon.

The US envoy was greeted at Mongla by Executive Director of Sundarban Academy Prof Anowarul Kadir and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Syed Mehedi Hasan.

High officials of Sundarban Forest Division (SFD) welcomed the US ambassador when she reached Karamjal. The SFD officials took her to different tourist spots of the world's largest mangrove forest.

Butenis urged all to play their due role to protect and preserve the resources of the Sundarbans at any cost.

Earlier, she was briefed about the activities of The Sundarban Academy by Prof Anowarul.
