Criminal held with AK47 rifle, bullets

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a criminal and recovered an AK47 rifle and 172 bullets from his possession in Fatikchaari upazila of the district yesterday.The arrestee, Md Osman Gani, 35, son of Syed Jahirul Islam of Syedpara village under the upazila, is a member of a criminal gang named Baker Bahini. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-7 raided the house of Osman at Syedpara village at around 9:30am and arrested him. On his confession, members of the elite force went to the house of Sharmin, reportedly a sister of Baker, chief of the gang, and recovered the AK47 rifle, 172 bullets and four magazines, digging the yard of the house, Rab sources said. Staff Officer of Rab-7 ASM Jahangir Alam Sarker said the recovered arms and ammunition were kept beneath a guava tree. Rab-7 members were quizzing Osman at their office as of 6:30pm yesterday.
