Joint forces raid Bashundhara office, seize documents
Staff Correspondent
The army-led joint forces seized files and documents raiding the corporate office of Bashundhara Group on Panthapath in the capital yesterday. A team of around 100 security personnel took position at the main entrances to the Bashundhara City shopping mall and searched the group's corporate office, housed on 10th to 18th floor of Bashundhara City, for around seven hours from 11:30am. During the raid, the crack forces quizzed a number of Bashundhara Group officials and barred everyone from going in or out of the office. They also asked all to leave the gymnasium on 8th and 9th floors during the raid. Panic gripped people inside the shopping mall when the joint forces entered the mall. On April 11, the crack forces raided the office and picked up 14 people who were later released. Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan (Shah Alam) was mentioned in the Anti-corruption Commission's first list of suspected corrupt people and was given 72 hours on February 18 to submit his wealth statement to the commission. He, however, has been absconding since then.
