The prize distribution ceremony of the Mercantile Bank 33rd National Championship, which concluded on Monday, was held at the National Sports Council conference room yesterday.Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, distributed prizes among the winners as chief guest. Shah Mohammed Nurul Alam, managing director of sponsors Mercantile Bank, was present as special guest. Bangladesh Chess Federation president Rafiqul Islam and general secretary Jamilur Rahman were also present. International Master Abdullah Al Rakib, who earned his third and final norm to complete all formalities to become a Grandmaster, won the title. The championship was rated as a GM tournament for the first time with three GMs taking part.
