Road crashes kill four

At least four people were killed in separate road accidents in Satkhira and Patuakhali yesterday and Monday.Our Correspondent from Satkhira adds: Two people were killed in separate road accidents in the district yesterday. The deceased were identified as Mustafa Babu, 17 son of Abdur Rouf of Village Jhowdanga in Sadar upazila and Sirajul Islam, 27, son of Ibrahim Moral of village Jhhikra in Kalaroa upazila, helper of bus. Quoting local people police said a coach knocked Mustafa down in front of Patkelghata Rural Electrification Board (REB) office at Patkelghata in Tala upazila on Satkhira-Khulna highway, leaving him injured seriously while he was crossing the road. He was rushed to a local clinic where he succumbed to his injuries. Patkelghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Malek confirmed the incident. In another accident, Sirajul Islam, who was appointed helper of K line Paribahan on Monday and came to join his new job yesterday, was crushed under the wheel of a coach when the driver was placing the bus in front of the counter of the Paribahan at Radhanagar in the town on Satkhira-Kaligonj road. Our Correspondent from Patuakhali reports: A woman and her son were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident on Monday evening on Patuakhali-Kuakata road. The dead were identified as Runia Begum, 50, and her 25-year-old son Suman of Tafalbaria village under Dashmina upazila of the district. Of the injured, 14 were admitted to Patuakhali General Hospital. They are Nishu, 10, Ripa, 5, Sanjida, 8, Abdullah Al-Mamun, 20, Flora, 12, Babul Akhter, 45, Sohag, 9, Litu Mridha, 35, Ginius, 10, Mamun Rashid, 25, Mehedi Hasan, 12, Mimi, 18, Mahbub, 20, Ruhul Amin, 32, and Abul Hossain, 50. They hailed from diferent villages of Galachipa, Baufal and Dashmina upazilas. Witnesses and hospital sources said Runia and her son Suman were killed on the spot when a Patuakhali-bound passenger bus from Amtali fell into a roadside ditch at Kalikapur area under Sadar upazila at about 5:00pm.
