Dhaka firm to bolster investment link with UK

Bangladesh is firmly committed to bolstering trade and investment links between Bangladesh and Britain as the UK is the third largest export destination for Bangladesh.Foreign Affairs Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said this at a dinner hosted by British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (BBCC) at Britania Hotel in East London Sunday, according to a message received here yesterday. Iftekhar is on a four-day official visit to the UK at the invitation of British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett, MP. He commended the BBCC for playing the most proactive role for more than a decade in promoting bilateral trade and commerce between Bangladesh and Britain as well as facilitating business contacts and networks with the European community. He also lauded the contributions and efforts of the BBCC as well as the British-Bangladeshi business community in increasing cooperation between the private sectors of the two Commonwealth countries. About the caretaker government's support for holding the Expo-2007, an exposition of Bangladeshi export products to be held in London at the yearend, Iftekhar assured them of facilitating all-out support of the government for successful holding of the exposition. He encouraged the Bangladeshi business community to take advantage of the liberal policy incentives for FDI in Bangladesh and make greater investments.
