Earlier, Bogra police filed two cases against the former lawmaker from Bogra-7 constituency (Gabtoli) for setting up an alleged 'unauthorised warless communication' and misappropriation of government relief funds.

One Mohmmed Akkas Ali, son of Mohmmed Afzal Hossain of Mohisaban village in Gaptoli upazila, filed the alleged extortion case, saying Lalu had demanded Tk 5 lakh on August 1 after the general election of 2001.

In the complaint Akkas claimed that he paid Tk two lakh but Lalu demanded more Tk 3 lakh. He declined to pay the amount, he said. After that Lalu's followers filed 20 cases against his younger brother.

Lalu and his followers also misappropriated CI sheets sanctioned as relief for Mahisaban Union Parisad office and other government property worth about Tk 3,70000, the complaint said.
