Raising retirement age
Nasim Chowdhury, Panthopath, Dhaka
The genuineness and compulsion for raising the retiring age of government servants from the present 57 to 60 years is long overdue and can hardly be overemphasized. There is a general national consensus on the issue and both the Awami League and the BNP had included this in their election manifesto. But neither party after coming to power lived up to their commitment, apparently for political consideration. The present caretaker government has been working for reforms, keeping national interest above everything else. It will be in the fitness of things if the government takes up the issue with due urgency and promulgate an ordinance to this effect without delay.
