80,000 tonnes of fertiliser to be imported

The advisory committee on purchase yesterday decided to buy 80,000 metric tons of fertiliser for the next aman season.

A meeting of the committee with Finance Adviser Mirza Azizul Islam in the chair decided to buy 50,000 metric tons of urea and 30,000 metric tons of phosphate fertiliser on a proposal placed by the industries ministry.

"We have decided to buy the fertiliser in advance to avoid any crisis in the next aman season," Industries Adviser Geeteara Safiya Choudhury told reporters after the meeting.
